Determining if you have obtained a Clearance Certificate

Edited

What do you need to know?

As you have spent less than 183 days in Canada, you are deemed a non-resident. Due to this, you are required to obtain a Clearance Certificate from the Canada Revenue Agency that verifies you have paid all income taxes or have come up with an arrangement to do so. Instructions on how to obtain a Clearance Certificate can be found here.

Why does it matter to Ownright?

If you have not obtained a Clearance Certificate, we are required to hold back 25% of the sale price until you do. This is because the buyer is responsible for remitting this amount to the CRA if you do not obtain a Clearance Certificate. The funds can be released to you as soon as you get the certificate.
